Dr. Michael Munzar, M.D.
Chair of the Board
Dr. Munzar has four decades of clinical experience as a licensed physician in Quebec. He has managed medical facilities and designed and conducted pre-clinical studies and clinical trials across the health care spectrum. His experience includes serving as Vice President of Medical and Regulatory Affairs at Osta Biotechnologies Inc., President of Serex Inc., and Medical Director of Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation. Dr. Munzar’s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. Currently Dr. Munzar is an owner and medical director of Statcare Medical Clinic in Point-Claire, Quebec this clinic is provincial accredited and funded as a Super-Clinic (GMF-Réseau) that sees and treats over 50,000 patients per year.
Dr. Munzar brings a wealth of medical and pharmaceutical industry and business experience to the board. He also serves as HEXO Corp.’s medical director. His scientific rigour and excellence have contributed to the quality of our research and the excellence of our products. He is a graduate of Bishop’s University (BSc Hon. Organic Chemistry) and received his MDCM from McGill University in 1979.
Sébastien St. Louis
Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer
Sébastien St. Louis is an entrepreneur with strong leadership abilities, financial acumen and operational expertise. Sébastien has wide-ranging business experience in manufacturing, distribution, trade finance and commercial lending. He has advised Canadian business owners and CEOs across multiple industry sectors, while structuring and closing $200 million in financing to support their export and growth initiatives.
Sébastien co-founded HEXO Corp. with one goal in mind: to create a world-class company based on the highest standards of product quality and safety. Since 2013, he has secured more than $260 million dollars in financing for the company. His leadership has been instrumental in navigating the company through regulatory, financing and start-up challenges on route to becoming the only significant licensed cannabis producer in Quebec and, upon completion of two fully-funded expansion projects currently underway, one of the largest in Canada. Sébastien holds an MBA in Finance from the Université du Québec à Montréal and completed his Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Ottawa in 18 months.
Co-founder & Chief Brand Officer
Adam Miron is an entrepreneur who has launched several successful businesses at the intersection of media, brand development, and public engagement. Adam’s ventures have included iPolitics, Canada’s premier online political news site.
Adam has been dedicated to public service throughout his adult life and has contributed to political campaigns at all levels of government. Among notable roles, he is a past National Director for Federal Commissions of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Adam turned his entrepreneurial talents to the medical cannabis industry and co-founded HEXO Corp. in 2013. Under his leadership as Chief Brand Officer, HEXO Corp. has emerged as one of Canada’s most innovative medical cannabis producers. Adam’s creativity continues to guide the development of the company’s industry-leading product line, including its award winning Decarb edible cannabis powder and Elixir sublingual peppermint oil cannabis spray, which won first and third place respectively in the Best New Cannabis Product category at the 2017 Canadian Cannabis Awards.
Jason Ewart is an accomplished financial executive with a track record of success in the venture capital and private equity sectors.
Jason is the co-founder and former CEO of the Canadian merchant bank, Fountain Asset Corp. He currently sits on the boards of Bradstone Capital Corp., Advantagewon Oil Corp., Attorneys Title Guarantee Fund Inc., and the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corp. Prior to this, Jason was a market analyst with A&E Capital Funding Inc. and Quest Investment Corporation between 1998 and 2003.
Vincent Chiara is a successful entrepreneur and sole owner of Groupe Mach, one of the largest privately-owned real estate investment companies in Quebec. Vincent began his career in real estate law and corporate litigation in 1984. In 1999, he turned his focus to property acquisition and development through his private holding company.
Groupe Mach and its affiliates own more than 24 million square feet of real estate, including landmark Montreal properties such as the Stock Exchange Tower, CIBC Tower, Sun Life Building, CBC Tower and University Complex.
Vincent holds a law degree and studied commerce at McGill University. He sits on several boards of public and non-public companies. He brings a wealth of strategic, business and financial acumen and expertise to the HEXO Corp. board.
Nathalie Bourque is an accomplished corporate director with executive level experience in communications, public affairs and investor relations. Nathalie has successfully managed financial community relations for IPOs, secondary offerings, M&A transactions and corporate restructurings during a business career that has spanned both the agency and client-sides. She currently sits on the boards of Alimentation Couche-Tard and Héroux-Devtek.
Nathalie is a former Vice-President, Public Affairs and Global Communications at CAE, the global leader in training for the civil aviation, defence and security, and healthcare markets. She was also a partner at NATIONAL Public Relations, one of Canada’s largest public relations firms, where she advised clients in the biopharmaceutical, aerospace, financial, and entertainment industries.
An MBA graduate from McGill University, Nathalie brings proven corporate governance and financial communications skills and experience to the HEXO Corp. board.
Chief Financial Officer
Ed Chaplin is an accomplished financial executive with experience in private companies and in Canadian and American public companies. Ed has spent almost two decades with high-growth companies, honing his expertise in financial management and control, equity and debt financing, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance.
During his career, Ed has been actively involved in the due diligence for six acquisitions worth a total of $378 million and led the financial integration of a $220 million acquisition. He also helped raise $480 million in debt and equity, while managing an SEC registration statement for a cross-border IPO on both the NASDAQ and the TSX.
Since joining HEXO Corp., Ed has contributed his expertise to several successful financings and TSXV listing in 2017, while establishing financial control and disclosure procedures and systems. Ed is a certified professional accountant and a graduate of Carleton University.
Chief Revenue Officer - Interim
Jim Bursey brings more than 30 years of experience in management to his interim role as Chief Revenue Officer, with a specific focus on operational execution aligned with strategic direction. Jim has extensive background in the management of business transformation initiatives, in organizations undergoing significant growth and change. Known for his emphasis on accountability and predictability, his experience includes building and managing global sales and delivery organizations in companies such as JetForm (acquired by Adobe) and SHL Systemhouse (acquired by MCI), as well as advising executive teams in several startups.
As interim Chief Revenue Officer, Jim oversees the sales and business development functions for HEXO Corp.
Chief Marketing Officer
Nick Davies is an accomplished marketing executive with more than two decades of experience building trusted global brands and market-leading products. Having worked with Puma, Coleman, Virgin, and Corel, Nick has earned a reputation as an energetic marketing leader known for building high quality consumer experiences. As Executive Vice President at Corel, he held global P&L responsibility for the graphics and productivity division, and led the company’s expansion into new international markets. Nick is a graduate of the European Business School and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
As Chief Marketing Officer, Nick conceptualizes and leads our team in executing our data-driven marketing strategy across multiple platforms and projects.
Chief Manufacturing Officer
Arno Groll brings an engineering background, management skills, and organizational expertise to his role as Chief Manufacturing Officer. Arno studied Aerospace Engineering at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Germany).
Arno has held operational positions in highly technical and/or regulated industry sectors in Canada, Europe, and Asia. Most recently, he served as Quality and Process Excellence manager for GEA, one of the largest suppliers of process technology for the food industry and a wide range of other industries, where he directed the quality management system and delivered high-calibre support for sophisticated production methods, while ensuring operational alignment with statutory and regulatory requirements. Prior to his work at GEA, Arno served as Director of Global Business Operations for LAM Research (Singapore), a leading supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the global semiconductor industry.
As Chief Manufacturing Officer, Arno oversees HEXO Corp.’s day-to-day operations in support of our growth. This includes oversight of and responsibility for operations, supply chain, and our expansion projects.
Chief People Officer
Dominique joins HEXO following a career spanning 20+ years in senior roles across multiple geographies and industries.
Most recently, Dominique served as Chief Operating Officer for an education software company and before that as Chief People Officer of Halogen Software, where she led the people function through exceptional growth and through IPO to sale. Of particular note, Dominique led significant culture change initiatives and designed and implemented award-winning leadership and high potential development programs.
With expertise in high growth organizations, Dominique is known for her strong leadership skills and her ability to bring practicality and alignment to strategy with all of her initiatives.
Prior to Halogen, Dominique worked with Right Management in both sales and organizational consulting delivery, for a global technology services company, a global American bank and early in her career in retail and heavy manufacturing in Europe.
Dominique holds a degree from St Andrews University and is a chartered member of the Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD) in the U.K.
Roch Vaillancourt brings almost 25 years experience in business and legal practice to his role as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Roch has been involved in several successful business ventures, both as an executive and legal advisor, most recently serving as General Counsel at Iovate Health Sciences International. His leadership and legal expertise have earned him a solid reputation among his peers, culminating in his inclusion as one of Canada’s top 100 General Counsels (Legal 500 GC Powerlist – 2016) and his inclusion in Legal Era Magazine’s London book release, “World’s Leading General Counsels - 2017-2018”. A graduate of the University of Ottawa (biomechanics and civil law), Roch is a member of the Barreau du Quebec as well as the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations.
As General Counsel, Roch plays an integral role in crafting all aspects of the company’s business and legal strategy, including contract negotiations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal and regulatory issues, and supporting management and the Board of Directors in all legal issues.
Sonia Isabel brings a wealth of sales and marketing expertise to her role as Vice-President of Sales. Sonia has more than 20 years experience managing large sales and marketing teams with a reputation for motivating employees to increase productivity and profitability. Her experience includes more than a decade in various senior roles with the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), including Director of Business Relations, Director of Sales Administration, and Director of Operational Planning. A graduate of the Université du Québec à Montréal and the Université de Sherbrooke (MBA), Sonia contributes leadership and creativity to our position at the leading edge of the medical and recreational cannabis markets.
As Vice-President of Sales, Sonia leads our sales development and customer acquisition and retention strategies, focusing on Quebec and other markets across Canada and abroad.
VP, Government Relations
Pierre Killeen brings a lifetime of professional experience in helping organizations secure public acceptance for change to his role as Vice-President of Government Relations and Corporate Communications.
A lawyer by training, Pierre has developed and executed successful public affairs strategies for clients in both the public and private sectors and is recognized for his ground-breaking use of digital and social media for public engagement. A graduate of Queen’s University and the University of Ottawa, Pierre has worked for some of Canada’s leading public relations firms, including Hill+Knowlton Strategies. As former lead and co-creator for Nanos’ public consultation practice, he pioneered the use of online consultations with municipalities across Canada as well as with Government of Canada departments and agencies. He has also served as an expert in Public Participation on World Bank missions to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Tunisia.
As Vice-President for Government Relations and Corporate Communications, Pierre helps decision-makers and the public understand the social, economic and political implications of cannabis. He also advances our position with policy-makers and regulators at the federal and provincial levels.
Agnes Kwasniewska brings almost a decade of experience in plant science and horticulture to her role as Master Grower. A former researcher at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Agnes has worked as an assistant researcher and field monitor at PRISME Consortium and most recently was assistant grower at Flora Plus Inc., where she oversaw propagation, environmental systems, integrated pest management and R&D. She holds a Master of Science degree from McGill University, and has authored specialized research on integrated pest control.
As Master Grower, Agnes is responsible for producing the highest-quality cannabis to uncompromising standards. She oversees all aspects of plant production and greenhouse operations, including strain selection, seed germination, nourishment, lighting, ventilation, and cultivation.
Dr. Terry Lake
VP, Corporate & Social Responsibility
Dr. Terry Lake brings sixteen years of political experience and a dedication to best practice in public health policy to his role as Vice-President of Corporate and Social Responsibility. During his tenure as a member of the British Columbia legislature (2009-2017), Terry served as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Health, where he was responsible for a $18 billion health budget. He also managed the implementation of the province’s public health response to the fentanyl opioid crisis, earning him the Canadian Public Health Association’s National Public Health Hero Award in May 2017, and the Provincial Public Health Officers’ Award of Excellence in Public Health. He is a past mayor of Kamloops, BC, a veterinarian and former animal health instructor at Thompson Rivers University.
As Vice-President of Corporate and Social Responsibility, Terry provides guidance and advice to ensure corporate policies and strategies uphold our reputation as a good corporate citizen in all areas, including public health and environmental sustainability.
VP, Business Development
James McMillan brings more than 20 years of executive experience in strategic sales, marketing and business development with an entrepreneurial spirit, strong negotiating skills, and expertise in developing growth markets to his role as our Vice-President for Business Development. A graduate of Concordia University (Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing/Finance), James has an established track-record of creating successful business development opportunities, building growth organizations, and establishing lasting customer relationships in diverse fields including communications, emerging technologies, energy management and now cannabis across both Canada and international markets.
As Vice-President for Business Development, James plays a leading role in identifying strategic opportunities in the expanding cannabis market. From the development of new and innovative product lines for the medical and recreational markets, to building strong relationships with commercial partners, James is responsible for establishing and expanding our market position in Canada and beyond.
VP, Program Office
Devan Pennell brings over 10 years of financial management, project management, and cross-functional team building experience to the role of Vice President, Program Office. A graduate of Saint Francis Xavier University and Chartered Professional Accountant by training, Devan has managed cross-functional and cross-boarder teams on a variety of high profile consulting projects, including the independent foreclosure reviews in the United States. Most recently, Devan was the Director of Finance at the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, where he helped bring the $500M redevelopment to life. Devan joined HEXO in the fall of 2016 as Director, Business Planning to help support the financing and go-public transaction for the company. Since then, Devan was also tasked with overseeing the construction of over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of facility expansions.
As Vice President, Program Office, Devan is responsible for leveraging our tools and people to drive shared consciousness and coordination across the organization, thus facilitating the timely and effective delivery of projects and initiatives that support achievement of our strategic objectives. In this role, Devan is responsible for the Operational Scalability, Product Management, and Information Services functions within HEXO.
Jocelyn Racine brings three decades of progressive financial management experience to the role of Vice-President of Finance. Jocelyn has held senior executive and finance positions in the construction and telecommunications industries. Previously, Jocelyn was with a leading audit firm. He has proven ability to lead the finance function and a successful track record. A graduate of Algonquin College, Jocelyn is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
As Vice-President of Finance, Jocelyn is responsible for financial reporting, internal control, risk management, and day-to-day treasury and financial operations. He also provides executive management with financial insight to support decision-making and contribute to the company’s success.
